Brambleton Friday Flash

Weekly Community News Bulletin - January 20, 2015

Regal Wood Snow Route - Parking restrictions are in effect on the BCA portion of Regal Wood Drive between Olympia Drive and Vickery Park Drive from 12:00 PM on Saturday (2/21/2015) through the end of forecasted weather event.  Parallel parking in non-designated/recessed spaces is prohibited during this period.  This will allow time for crews to clear the street from curb to curb which will allow for improved travel conditions in the days to follow.  Vehicles in violation of this restriction will be towed at the owner’s expense.  Owners of towed vehicles can recover their vehicle at Road Runner Wrecker Service (703-450-7555).

Stay Off Frozen Ponds – For your safety, please make sure you stay off frozen ponds and streams within the community.  Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office and the Loudoun County Department of Fire, Rescue and Emergency Management asks that residents never walk on frozen streams, rivers and ponds. “It is especially important for parents to speak with their children about the dangers of walking and playing on frozen ponds and rivers,” said Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman. “If you live near a waterway, we ask that you remain watchful for children attempting to venture onto the ice,” Sheriff Chapman added. More winter safety and preparedness tips can be found online.

Sidewalks and Snow Shoveling - It is the residents responsibility to clear the sidewalks adjacent to their property preferably within six hours of the last snow fall. Be careful to dress warmly in these frigid temperatures. These temperatures are so low in fact that ice melting products may not be effective. If this is the case or you are unable to remove the snow, please take action to provide a substance for traction such as sand or kitty litter. If you cannot shovel and or you need assistance with shoveling please refer to our Snow Removal Provider Directory for assistance.

High Winds Can Cause Problems - There have been several days recently where we were under a high wind advisory. Please take a moment to walk around your residence and take note of any shingles that may have blown off of your home or your neighbors. We often don’t check those things and there could be bigger problems that arise as a result of it not being noticed or remedied. Other things to be aware of in high winds are trash being stored properly and items that may be left unsecured on decks blowing onto neighboring properties.

The Dulles South Public Safety Center quarterly meeting postponed last month due to inclement weather has been rescheduled for Monday, February 23, 2015 at 7:00 PM. The Dulles South Public Safety Center is located at 25216 Loudoun County Parkway in Chantilly, VA. Items to be discussed are recent crime and crime trends in your area, traffic safety concerns and other public safety related issues. The meeting will be led by a Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office Captain in our area and Sheriff Mike Chapman or a member of his leadership team will also be in attendance.

Loudoun County residents have the option to file a crime report online at a time that is best without having to wait for a deputy to respond or call back. The online crime reporting system should not be used in cases where it is an emergency or if the crime is in progress or just occurred. In those cases please call 911.  The reportable online crime types include:
Alcohol Violations; Civil Disputes; Credit Card Fraud; Destruction of Property; Fraud/False Pretenses; Harassing Calls/Emails; Identity Theft; Theft; Theft From Vehicle; Lost Property; Narcotics Activity; Suspicious Event/Circumstances.  Loudoun residents utilizing the website can print a temporary copy of the report upon submitting the report. The report will be reviewed by LCSO personnel. Once approved, the filing person will receive an e-mail with a copy of the report attached at no cost. The report will transfer into the LCSO’s records management system and receive the same investigation and statistical analysis as if the report had been filed by a deputy.
